“AI in modern life-The impact on society and media” event

On the 12th of February, the intelligent AR assistant for education which is part of the XR4ED platform was presented at a national event entitled “AI in modern life-The impact on society and media”. The event was co-organized by OPEK and CYENS and was supported by the Municipality of Nicosia and the newspaper Politis.

Academics and journalists met in a joint panel and approached the world of AI, its potential, where it leads and how it is regulated, while safeguarding fundamental rights and information management.

The panel included academics Loizos Michael, Professor, Open University of Cyprus and CYENS Centre of Excellence and Lillian Mitrou, Professor, University of the Aegean, President of the Institute for Privacy Law, Personal Data and Technology. Also participating were journalists Elli Kotzamanis, Chair of the Committee on Journalistic Ethics and Yannis Seitanidis, Vice President of the Cyprus Union of Journalists. The talks were followed by a dialogue between the speakers with audience participation. The summary and conclusions of the debate were moderated by Theano Kalavana, President of OPEK.

At the beginning of the event, the opportunity was given to present innovation projects of CYENS researchers.
